SUWIElogo.jpgWiney Suen at the SUWIE Annual DinnerSydney University Women in Engineering (SUWIE) is not just for women, not just for engineers and not just for Sydney Uni kids. If you SUPPORT women in engineering, this is the society for you!
SUWIE exists for a few primary reasons:
  1. So people realise there really are women in engineering
  2. To hold engineering events where about 50% of the attendees are actually women
  3. So engo girls can somehow find each other, get dolled up (our dinner and cocktail evenings) and do girly things (like wear a dress and bake cakes) once in a while without getting wolf whistled by boys.
  4. To give out really cool free stuff to poor uni students like yourself.

  • We hold ridiculously awesome and highly dignified events every year including:
  • Engineering Connections - A mentoring program for first years students beginning in O-Week and continuing through semester 1. Contact our Vice-President Eli at bb47e37e64374122d969d53838fc070d if you would like to be involved!
  • Pizza Welcome Lunch – Free pizza! Yay!
  • SUWIE Annual Dinner (late September) – Free talk by super engo mums from industry and free drinks!
  • Women in Industry Seminar and Cocktail evening (mid sem 1) – Meet a panel of women from different engineering disciplines talk about all things from work/life balance, glass ceiling, workplace discrimination and coping in a blokey engo world…Plenty of stories, lots of laughs!
  • Cake Stall – The only cake stall in engineering! Release your inner domestic!
  • SUWIE Chicks on the slideSummer Dress Day – Feel awkward wearing a dress in engo for fear of being the only one? Worried of the house-wife jokes bombardment? Be afraid no longer!!
  • Breast Cancer Awareness – Any excuse will do to say the word “breasts” in engineering.

The 2009 SUWIE ExecutiveDespite the obvious sexist jokes, part of being an engo girl is getting used to taking it all with a grain of salt and having the ability to laugh at yourself! We’d love to meet all first years, men and women, so please join us for some (or all) of our events.

Join the SUWIE Facebook group for regular updates.
