PeteSistrom2.jpgWell, my experiences as a Mechanical Engineering student, where do I start? Firstly in selecting Mechanical Engineering I didn’t actually know what I was getting myself into but it has worked out to be one the best decisions of my life. Although the course is challenging and can be frustrating at times, it is ultimately extremely rewarding. The opportunities that you will be presented with during your studies are numerous and invaluable, for example through my work experience I’ve had the chance to visit and work on some of the biggest Power Stations in the country, an opportunity only Engineering can offer.

By far the best part of studying Engineering at Sydney is SUEUA and the social life. Because Engineers are at Uni 3 to 4 hundred times more than most other students you basically need to befriend other people studying engineering or you will go crazy and do something silly like pass everything. The best and easiest way to meet great people is through SUEUA and its events. If you do nothing else while you are at Uni go to a Beer N Bangers and have a sip from ‘The Bin,’ you’ll never look back.

First year can be quite daunting and you may sometimes feel overwhelmed but there is always someone willing to help or at least go to the pub, and if you apply yourself you will be able to drink any Arts student under the table. So get involved and come have a chat with any of us, we won’t bite (hard!)

P.S. If you’re not yet convinced (and you should be) that Mechanical is the best stream come speak to any of us ‘Mechanicals’ and experience it first hand.
